There are many reasons to shun Cheap Tanning Lotions as they can be not only ineffective but can actually lead to skin damage. Sometimes Cheap Tanning Lotion are called Sunscreens or Sunblocks but actually are neither.

Sunscreen has an SPF number and creates an invisible barrier against the sun. The SPF number determines the strength of this protection. With higher numbers meaning, obviously, higher protection. Most sunscreens need time to work so they should be applied 20 minutes before you go outside. They will not prevent you from tanning but sunscreens will lower your risk of getting burned. The problem with Cheap Tanning Lotion Sunscreens is that often the SPF number is completely invented. There have been cases of Cheap Tanning Lotion carrying an SPF of 30 but actually protecting like an SPF of 5.

Sunblock does not have an SPF number listed on it because it protects the skin from all UV rays. It is usually a thick cream that most often contains zinc oxide. People often make the mistake of calling some sunscreens with SPF numbers of 15 or higher sunblocks. The very fact that it has an SPF number on it means that it is a sunscreen and not a sunblock. The elements of Sunblocks are expensive, so if you see a Cheap Tanning Lotion calling itself a Sunblock that might be a tip that it is little more than useless cream.

Each person should take the time to assess their own sun risk factor. The first step is to determine your skin type. Are you dark or light skinned? In general, the darker the skin, the stronger its resistance to being burned. Also people who live neared to the equator run higher risks of getting sun burnt. High altitudes are also a factor to be considered since UV radiation increases about 5% for every 1,000 feet above sea level.

Since there is no “safe” tan, the best we can do is to avoid getting burned thus we should keep away from Cheap Tanning Lotions. Many people believe that a sunburn will fade into a tan. In reality, a sunburn is actually a group of broken blood vessels that form on top of a tan. The odds of getting skin cancer are especially high when you get a sunburn before the age of 21 but burns at any age can have major side effects such as loss of elasticity, the formation of sunspots on the skin and the loss of skin moisture. Those are all effects you want to keep away from, thus you should avoid Cheap Tanning Lotions.
